Uzbekistan - Turkey: Cooperation in the Pharmaceutical Sector

On March 14-15, 2024, a delegation led by A. Azizov, Director of the Pharmaceutical industry development agency, visited Turkey.

On March 14, the Agency's delegation met with representatives of leading companies such as "Abdi Ibrahim", "TERRA", "EastFarma", "TISD", "Atabay", "Kocak Farma", "Ali Raif" at the TOBB building in Istanbul. During the event, participants familiarized closely with our country's pharmaceutical industry, discussed mechanisms for regulating the pharmaceutical sector, particularly market organization, reference prices, and incentives created for investors. At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to continue the dialogue online.

 On the same day, the representatives of the Agency's delegation also met with the "IEIS-Pharmaceutical Industry Manufacturers Association of Turkey" to learn about the current state of Turkey's pharmaceutical industry and to explore the experience of establishing international standards for pharmaceutical oversight bodies. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to further cooperation in this matter.

 The events of March 14, concluded with a visit to the production facility of "Abdi Ibrahim" enterprise in Istanbul. Agency representatives got acquainted with the entire production cycle and obtained detailed information about automation systems and production mechanisms. Both sides discussed cooperation prospects, with "Abdi Ibrahim" emphasizing the benefits of thoroughly studying the market and expressing their intention to visit Uzbekistan in the near future.

 For reference: A. Azizov, director of the Pharmaceutical industry development agency, visited Turkey in December 2023 and held negotiations with representatives of the "Abdi Ibrahim" company. On January 11, 2024, at the invitation of Abdulla Azizov, Koksal Ulgen, the vice president for international markets of the large Turkish pharmaceutical company "Abdi Ibrahim" came to Uzbekistan. Also, the general director of "Abdi Ibrahim" company expressed interest in the Tashkent Pharma Park cluster and visited the cluster.

 Director of the Pharmaceutical industry development agency, A. Azizov visited the Turkey. On the second day of the visits, he met with Usman Chamchi, the CEO of "Universal Certification" company. "Universal Certification" is a Turkish company that provides consulting services in the field of certification activities. During the meeting, discussions were held about establishing a certification body in the Republic of Uzbekistan according to ISO:13485 international standards. Both parties agreed to cooperate in forming a working group and developing a roadmap for the establishment of this organization.

Additionally, the Director of the Agency also visited "ARIS" and "Bilim Ilaç" pharmaceutical companies. There, company representatives familiarized with the entire production cycle, providing detailed information about automation systems and production mechanisms. "ARIS" and "Bilim Ilaç" expressed interest in conducting market research in Uzbekistan and discussed prospects for future cooperation.
