Strengthening relations in the field of pharmaceuticals between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan

Under chairmanship of Director of Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ulugbek Egamov, negotiations were held with Chairman of National Food and Drug Administration (AFDA) of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Dr. Abdul Bori Umar.

During the meeting through Zoom platform, organized on “Strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the field of pharmaceuticals, launching joint projects, promoting exports” proposals were made to launch joint projects of pharmaceutical enterprises of Afghanistan in Uzbekistan, exported pharmaceutical products of Uzbekistan to Asia countries.

In particular, proposals were made, such as creation of a "Showroom" of pharmaceutical products of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Afghanistan, registration of pharmaceutical products of Uzbekistan in the relevant departments of Afghanistan and reduction of registration period, participation of enterprises manufacturing pharmaceutical products in our country in public procurement (tenders ) Afghanistan for medicines.

In addition, it was proposed to get acquainted with range of pharmaceutical products manufactured by Uzbekistan during meetings with large pharmaceutical distributors in Afghanistan, establishing cooperation, as well as creating a technical working group of the two countries. Within the framework of this, issues of close exchange of information, adoption of practical measures to solve problems, and signing of an agreement on bilateral cooperation were also discussed.

As part of the negotiations, Dr. Abdul Bori Umar, Chairman of the National Food and Drug Administration of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, was invited to Uzbekistan to get acquainted with the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Uzbekistan.

Also, the Afghan side paid special attention to the registration of pharmaceutical products manufactured by Uzbek enterprises, the absence of problems for the participation of Uzbek manufacturers and state-owned enterprises in Afghan tenders, the issue of taking all necessary measures to develop mutual cooperation with businessmen of the countries.

As a result of the negotiations, the proposal to form a technical working group of the Islamic State of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan was supported and it was decided to approve and submit its composition in the near future.
