Korean Investors Tend to Develop the Pharmaceutical Industry of Uzbekistan

These days, Alisher Shadmanov, Minister of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Sardor Kariev, Director of the Agency on Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry are visiting South Korea. The main purpose of the trip is a further development of bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea in the pharmaceutical industry.

On the first day of the visit, the Uzbek delegation met with Sung Yun-mo, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, Song Yun-mo expressed his willingness to assist in attracting Korean investors for the development of the pharmaceutical industry in Uzbekistan.

Indeed, our government pays special attention to attracting investment in the pharmaceutical industry. In particular, in 2018 the regions of the republic allocated 96.26 million USD to the pharmaceutical industry, thus, launching 34 projects and creating 1501 jobs.
According to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On measures to implement the investment program of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019’ dated December 19, 2018, this year the pharmaceutical industry plans to implement 20 projects totaling 216.5 million USD and creating 2,218 jobs.

Worth to note, 159 domestic pharmaceutical enterprises operate in Uzbekistan. Of these, 90 enterprises specialize in the production of medicines, 58 - produce medical products and 11 - diagnostic equipment. Of the 35 pharmacotherapeutic groups, domestic manufacturers produce medicines included in 26 groups.
