Ministry of Health Warns: Artesian Well Water in Chust Not for Drinking

The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan provided information about the spring water flown to the surface in a farmer’s field in Chust District of Namangan region and the spread of rumors about the healing properties of water from this spring.

Specialists of the Central State Sanitary Epidemiological Inspection of Namangan region received water samples from the spring appeared on May 22, 2019 on the territory of the Tomchi Zamin farm in Chust District for laboratory research. Accredited laboratories of the Regional Center of Sanitary Epidemiology conducted bacteriological, sanitary-chemical and radiological studies. According to preliminary sanitary and chemical analysis, water from that spring can not be used as drinking water. Bacteriological analyzes are currently underway.

“To determine the nature of any mineral water, the State Committee on Geology and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan must first analyze and the results of the analysis should be sent for evaluation to the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Therapy and Medical Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Health. In case, water is suitable for drinking, it is necessary to carry out construction work on this site in accordance with the principles of water use and after sanitary-hygienic and anti-epidemic procedures, to determine in treatment of which diseases it is useful. Without being studied by experts, water cannot be used for drinking, washing, bathing or for carrying out any other procedures that may lead to undesirable phenomena, such as irritation, exacerbation of diseases or other disturbances in the body.

Therefore, in the case of spring water from an artesian well in the Tomchi Zamin farm, it is not suitable for drinking and household use. We should not forget that water is not only a source of life, but also a source of many infectious diseases, including especially dangerous infections and somatic diseases,” said Bakhrom Almatov, head of the Republican Center for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Surveillance.
